MATA INDONESIA, BANDARLAMPUNG – A few hours before the turn of the year, Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait, South Lampung Regency, has again erupted. If on Monday 30 December 2019 the ash column that was sprayed reached 2000 meters, today it was reduced to only 1000 meters.Â
The eruption took place on Tuesday 31 December 2019 at 06.51 WIB. According to the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG), the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the thick ash column is gray to black
The column is as high as 1000 meters from the top of the Krakatau crater or about 1,157 meters above sea level.
The ash column is leaned towards the south. Seismograms record eruptions with a maximum amplitude of 41 mm and a duration of 1 minute 33 seconds.Â
According to PVMBG records, during the eruption there was no sound of thumping. Even so until now the mountain is still in Status Alert (Level II).
PVMBG advises residents and tourists not to approach an area within a two kilometer radius of the crater.
